Website Design for Solicitors and Law Firms

£495 / $625 for a Starter law firm website, Business £1,495 / $1,895, Premium from £3,995 / $4,995, SEO from £299 a month. Most small firms need Business, because the SRA Transparency Rules call for a price page per regulated service.

£495 buys a law firm a fixed-price Starter website of up to 5 pages ($625 in the US), but most small firms are better served by our £1,495 Business site ($1,895), because the SRA Transparency Rules turn every conveyancing, probate or employment tribunal service you offer into its own page of prices, and five pages run out fast. Bespoke builds with client portals or case management integrations sit in Premium, from £3,995 ($4,995), and search work starts at £299 a month. Below are straight answers to what firms ask before they commission a site, with the regulatory points read from the SRA’s own pages.

Last updated 10 October 2026. SRA Transparency Rules (version in effect from 11 April 2025), the SRA clickable logo page and the SRA comparison websites guidance (dated 30 September 2024) all read on sra.org.uk on 10 October 2026. Our prices checked against our own package catalogue the same day.

How much does a law firm website cost in 2026?

£495 to £3,995 or more with us, depending on how many services you publish and whether the site has to talk to your practice software. Starter (£495, $625) is up to 5 pages with a custom design, typically live in about a week. Business (£1,495, $1,895) is up to 15 pages on WordPress with a CMS your team can edit, typically live in two to three weeks, with 90 days of support after launch. Premium (from £3,995, $4,995) covers integrations with practice software, client portals and anything bespoke, priced and fixed before we start. Every package is listed on our packages page with nothing hidden behind a “call us” button.

Which package does a small law firm actually need?

Business, for most firms of two to ten fee earners. Count the pages a regulated firm needs before it says anything about itself: a home page, an about page, a contact page, a complaints procedure, and a price and service page for each regulated service you offer. A high street firm doing residential conveyancing, estate administration and wills is past five pages before it has written a single team profile. Starter can work for a single-service practice, say an immigration specialist with one price page, and we’d rather tell you that than upsell you. Business already takes card payments through Stripe, so a fixed-fee will or a conveyancing deposit can be paid online; if you want clients logging into a portal or documents flowing into your case management system, that’s Premium. The Business package page lists exactly what’s included.

Which legal services must show prices on a solicitor’s website?

9 services, split between individual and business clients, under rules 1.3 and 1.4 of the SRA Transparency Rules. The duty applies to any of these you publish as available. For individuals:

  • residential conveyancing: freehold or leasehold sales and purchases, mortgages and remortgages
  • collecting and distributing a deceased person’s assets in the UK, where the matter isn’t contested (the rules don’t use the word “probate”)
  • immigration applications, excluding asylum applications
  • advice and representation at the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) on Home Office visa and immigration appeals, excluding asylum appeals
  • advice and representation at the Magistrates’ Court on summary only road traffic offences dealt with at a single hearing
  • employees bringing unfair or wrongful dismissal claims at the Employment Tribunal

For businesses:

  • employers defending unfair or wrongful dismissal claims at the Employment Tribunal
  • debt recovery up to £100,000
  • licensing applications for business premises

Rule 1.2 excludes publicly funded work (SRA Transparency Rules, read 10 October 2026). We aren’t a law firm and this isn’t legal advice: check your own obligations with the SRA, and we’ll build whatever pages your compliance officer signs off.

What price information does the SRA expect on each page?

7 kinds of information under rule 1.5, shown “in a prominent place on your website” under rule 1.6. Those are the total cost (or an average or range where a total isn’t practicable), the basis of your charges such as hourly rates or fixed fees, the experience and qualifications of the people doing the work and their supervisors, likely disbursements and their cost, whether VAT applies and how much, what the price includes (key stages, likely timescales, and services a client might expect that aren’t covered), and, where you use conditional fee or damages based agreements, when a client may have to pay. Rule 1.6 also asks for the information to be clear and accessible. In build terms, that means a template with a field for each item, so a new price page can’t go live with the disbursements box empty, and a visible link to it from the service page rather than a PDF buried in the footer.

Does a law firm website have to display the SRA digital badge?

Yes, and it has been compulsory since 25 November 2019. Rule 4.1 of the Transparency Rules requires an authorised body to show its SRA number and the SRA’s digital badge in a prominent place on its website. The SRA now calls the badge its clickable logo; it tells visitors the firm is regulated and links them to what that protection means. It only works on websites linked to the firm’s mySRA record, so the domain has to be entered there first, and the SRA advises allowing at least 24 hours after updating website details (SRA clickable logo page, read 10 October 2026). On a redesign or a domain change, that’s the step that trips firms up: the new site launches and the badge stops displaying. Separately, rule 4.2 requires letterhead and emails to carry your SRA authorisation number and the words “authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority”, which we put in the site footer too.

Must a solicitor’s website publish its complaints procedure?

Yes. Rule 2.1 requires your complaints handling procedure on your website, including how and when a complaint can be made to the Legal Ombudsman and to the SRA. We give it its own page, linked from every footer, rather than tucking it inside the terms of business. If a firm has no website at all, rule 3.1 says the rule 1 and rule 2 information must be provided on request instead (SRA Transparency Rules).

Is a website builder good enough for a law firm?

No, for most firms that offer any of the 9 price-published services. A builder can host the pages, but nothing in a generic template knows that a conveyancing page needs a disbursements table and a timescale, and keeping fees current across several services becomes a manual job somebody forgets. A builder can be fine for a barrister’s chambers profile or a consultant solicitor who needs a single page and a contact form. Our website builder cost comparison has the monthly plan prices if you want to weigh it up.

How much does law firm SEO cost?

£299 a month on our SEO Foundation plan, £599 on SEO Growth and from £1,200 on SEO Authority ($379, $749 and $1,499 in the US), billed monthly with no minimum term. Foundation covers technical SEO, local SEO, schema and one article a month, which suits a firm in one town. Growth adds four articles a month and answer engine work, and suits a firm competing across a county for conveyancing or employment work. Authority is for firms going after a national practice area. Our guide to what SEO costs in the UK sets those plans against what agencies typically charge.

Does local SEO work for law firms?

Yes. Most clients look for a solicitor near home or near the property, so the map results matter more than almost anything else on the page. That means a Google Business Profile per office, a page for each office with its own address and hours, and reviews from real clients. On review sites, the SRA says signing up to a comparison website and giving it information about your services and charges is allowed, and points to paragraph 8.8 of its Code of Conduct for Solicitors, RELs and RFLs on making sure that information is accurate (SRA comparison websites guidance, 30 September 2024, read 10 October 2026). Our local SEO guide walks through the map listing side.

What is answer engine optimisation for law firms?

It’s making your pages the source ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews quote when someone asks “how much does conveyancing cost” or “can my employer dismiss me without a reason”. Law firms have an advantage most sectors don’t: the Transparency Rules already force you to publish exactly the plain cost and timescale facts those engines like to cite. Most firms then hide them in a table nobody can read. We write each price page so its first sentence answers the question with a number, mark it up with schema, and track whether the engines cite it. Full answer engine work sits in SEO Growth at £599 a month; our answer engine optimisation guide explains how it works.

How much does website maintenance cost for a UK law firm?

£30 to £100 a month is what most UK small business sites pay for updates, backups, security and uptime monitoring, before hosting, per our website maintenance costs guide. A law firm should sit at the top of that range, not the bottom. You hold client data, a hacked site with a fake bank details page is a fraud risk to your clients, and every fee change has to reach the price pages promptly. Business includes 90 days of support after launch and Premium includes 12 months.

Do you build websites for US law firms?

Yes, from $625 for a Starter site, $1,895 for Business and from $4,995 for Premium. None of the SRA rules above apply in the US. Lawyer advertising is regulated state by state through each state’s rules of professional conduct, and we couldn’t read the American Bar Association’s own pages on the Model Rules when we checked on 10 October 2026, so we won’t paraphrase them here. Send us your state bar’s advertising rules, or have your ethics counsel mark up the copy, and we’ll build to them, including any disclaimers your state requires on the attorney profiles and practice area pages. Our 2026 US website cost guide has the wider US pricing picture.
